FAKING SHALLOW DEPTH OF FIELD - INFRARED

As well as using the panorama technique to enhance subject isolation I've also tried faking the blur in post production. This involves hand painting depth masks, which in turn controls where the photo is blurred. It can be pretty time consuming if you want good accuracy with this technique.

Over the past 3 years I've shot a lot of infra-red photography due to having my Sony A7 converted to full spectrum. So, I can now shoot parts of the UV and infrared spectrum as well as colour (roughly 300nm to 1200nm) using external filters. I found that this lends itself quite well for creating ethereal miniatures of scenes by adding the 'Lens Blur'.
