It's not the newest high-end Nikon portrait lens, but it still kicks some serious ass for wide-open sharpness and bokeh quality. It does have some CA aberrations in the bokeh wide-open, but there are very few fast lenses that don't and it's certainly not the worst. I would still highly recommend this lens for use on a Nikon camera!

If you're don't need the AF or can't use it on your camera (like me or have a low-end Nikon body) then either look out for the manual AI-S version from Nikon or go for the Samyang/Rokinon 85mm f/1.4. Both are very good options in general and for this technique.
